FROM WORKHOUSE TO HOSPITAL TO HOMES
THE EXHIBITION ON 22 APRIL
More than one hundred people attended the tree dedication and exhibition on Saturday 22 April, so I can safely say the event was a huge success! I am absolutely delighted and only too pleased to be able to share my hobby with so many interested and supportive people.
Now it didn’t just happen without a lot of help and I’d like to thank absolutely everyone involved for their contribution however large or small – it was definitely a team effort and typical of what makes Tattingstone such a super place to live!
For me the icing on the cake was being able to bring back some happy memories to people and also an unexpected bonus was that it brought some people back to the village where they met old friends and reminisced about good times. It’s easy to think of the past of Chedworth and Samford being all doom and gloom but all the people I’ve spoken to who worked at St Mary’s Hospital have very fond memories of their time there so it must have been a much happier place than when the buildings housed the Workhouse. And now of course it is somewhere to be very proud to live thanks to the conversion to modern homes.
And it all goes to prove that history doesn’t have to be boring!
